Hi Everybody. Well today certainly was an air condition day. It got to 91 this aft but still not to humid. We went to Campwood for lunch with Gale and Ken and had a great time. It was a buffet -all you could eat. Some Mexican and some American food. The trip there is so scenic with the cliffs right beside the road. We also showed Gale the small campgound we dis covered south of the town that she could put her kayak in at.on the Neuces river. They both really liked it there.Everyone's first question around here is "Were ya"all from" Well thats about it for tonight . Hope ya'll have a great weekend! bye for now Ron and Dee

We had heard of a spot to go rock hounding when we get to Fredricksburg next week. Its on a farm so Ron needed to get a few supplies. We found a good shovel and a $1 trowel.Should prove interesti g.There seems to be a few things to do and see there ,so will probably be there a few days.Well thats about it for today. Mon.Feb 23

Hi everybody, today was nice and sunny again but on the cool side. We had frost last night.Tomorrow the weather is supposed to turn around and get much warmer.
We went into Leaky today to mail a couple of letters- 1 to Mike and 1 to my sister Ruth. we'll see how long it takes to get there.Hi to Mike and Lynne, its good to get your e-mails.Sorry about all your snow but that's out of my hands.Glad to hear Larry and Jean are enjoying our blog and hope to meet them sometime this summer.I think the 4 of you would love it down here especially since you only need a shovel for doggy poop.It seems there's a skunk who likes our park as much as us. He's been roaming around here for the last couple of nights!Pepe even had the nerve to spray a couple of huskies that sleep outside at night. The dogs live in a brand new motorhome down the street and their owners had to use the baking soda, peroxide and hot water bath on them yesterday.(a few times).I wonder what else is out there.
Ann its good to hear Echo is back home-she's probably got the Texas redneck attitude-so look out!
Well thats about it for tonight .Hope y'all had a great day. bye for now Ron & Dee.

Sun Feb 22

Hi everybody ,not too much happening today.Just enjoying the weather. Its sunny but on the cool side. We did our walk this afternoon and then Gale and I went up to the hall to work on our new puzzle. Boy is it ever hard! Its horses splashing through a stream with a forested area behind them .Should be a while working on this one.
We visited a bit with the granchildren until their computer didn't work anymore, but at least we got to tell them we missed them.
So all and all its been a great day-hope you have a great day too! Ron and Dee

Fri Feb 20

Hi everybody,Not too much happened yesterday .I can say the potluck dinner was delicious as usual with 43 people showing up and lots of different kinds of food.My cabbage rolls were a hit also.
Today we were off on the 3 Sisters scenic route which took us past the exotic farm again. here are some kangaroos that we spotted this time as well as a couple of camels.127 miles over the mountains.3 hrs long avr 34 mph.
They seemed pretty people friendly as we took there pics.Just kind of looked around as if to say "are you done yet?"

The scenery was just spectacular and at one point we were up 2400 ft on top of mountains. We met some road bikers and i dont know how they ever made it up some of these hills.Must have some strong leg muscles! It was a great sunny day for it with a cool breeze to boot.

As we stopped at lookout for pics this mama deer was guiding her 2 fawns across the road.

A cliff in one of the canyons. We stopped for lunch in Campwood
eating at the "Holy Smoke Barbacue pit"It served up pulled pork or beef on buns with sauce and baked potatoes.Oh my gosh was it scrumptious! and nice clean INDOOR bathrooms.
When we walked in we both said Holy smoke does it ever smell good in here ---thats probably how it got its name.
Today we reserved a spot here for 3 months next year if everything goes right .Its too nice to pass up a spot. Well bye for now -take care hope y'all have a great weekend! Ron & Dee

Wed,Feb 18

Hi everybody,I figured while I'm playing catch-up I might as well do today's also.
It is a beautiful sunny day just as predicted-86 deg. and 13% humidity(thats pretty dry)which is why we don't need the a/c on.
Gale and I got into Leaky early this morning and got our haircuts. The stylists did a super job on both of us.Gale is going back before they head for home the end of March.
Our last day here is March 5 but we may extend for another week-have to decide soon!
Another camper pulled out this morning headed for Corpus Christi-they were full timers so can go just about anywhere.Tonight is pot luck with not so many people anymore but it will be great anyway-I heard lasagna was on the menu and a blackberry wine sour cream cake.Sounds like a 4 mile walk tomorrow lol.
Live music after-not sure about that.Anyway have a great night .Take care Ron & Dee

Tues Feb !7

Hi everybody, Today was a dreary wet day and Big Baldy was fogged in most of the day. But that was a good thing really because any moisture of any kind is needed here. There was actually a itty bitty puddle of water dripping off the end of trailer.
Ron spotted this almost tame armadillo walking under the trailer .It was'nt the least bit afraid of us but was in a dither as to which way to get back down the cliff to river.

I think he's the guy that's been rooting around here at night in the same spot and in the morning we cover it up.He looked to weight approx. 5 lbs or so.Who can tell with all that armour on!!

He finally scurried offin the right direction.
Supper tonight was tacos and all the free trimmings--LIFE is GOOD!

Well thats it for today Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny. Take care all Ron & Dee

Mon Feb 16

Hi everybody.Well today was exercise dayand we were able to do it in the hall as all the rally people left yesterday. It is a cold day here and very cloudy. The rain started at 3:00 and drizzled until 4:30. It was just what they needed here and more . Maybe another day.
Ron and I got a walk in before it started .
Supper was leftover chicken and mashed potatoes with a veggie.GREAT!
Thats about it for today -Ron's heading off to bed and I can read my book. Take care -Ron & Dee

Sun Feb 15

Hi everybody,A bit cloudy today here so we decided to go to Uvalde for a few groceries. We hit a great deal on a already roasted chicken for $6.99 and a pkg of mashed potatoes free.Thats one meal tonight and another tomorrow.Add a veggie and voila! The other great deal at HEB was buy 2# of lean hamburger and get FREE the taco shells, the pkg of taco seasonings. the sour cream ,a can of refried beans and a 1/2 # of cheddar cheese.I asked the girl twice if that was right and she said yes.!So we saved $12.00 on all our stuff.Plus Ron got gas for $1.77 there today. It was certainly worth the day out .The Garner S P. was busy with families having picnics and swimming.Well thats about it for today. take care Ron & Dee

Feb 14--Sat

Hi everybody "Happy Valentine's Day to you " hope y'all had a great day.We did a 2 mile walk this morning .It was cloudy with a bit of chill in the air.But like every other day in Texas the sun pops through and it turns out a good day.Garner State Park seems to be filling up as Monday is Presidents day here. We've had a few pull in here but not as many as i expected for a 3 day holiday.Guess everyone went shopping instead.Ron barbecued a really good supper of spareribs and a couple of skewers each of shrimps.I made waldorf coleslaw with pecans and apples. The whole meal was delish! We also had a campfire at Ken and Gail's before supper(so Ken could enjoy it )and it was great.Well thats it for today -take care everyone Ron & Dee

Fri Feb 13

Hi everybody,Not too much happening around here today. This is Gail out in her kayak on the river. It is a gorgeous day here and the temp got to 84.Abit humid but that soon blew away too.
This is one of the lots we would like to get next year if we come back .There are lots of nice ones and this one is in a sunnier spot.,but not overlooking the river. There are lots of nice ones that are in the middle of park.

These are 2 girls that are swimmingin the (ice cold) river. Can you believe it in Feb.! Thats Texas for you.We had Story Telling today in the hall & Ron myself & Gail were the only ones to show up. So Pam told us the story on how she came to work at this park and how it has grown from 43 sites to 93.She also told us about driving over a flooded river /road with her 78' cadilac that weighs 2 tons and nooo problem !lol. The owner and staff have made it into a family atmosphere and it sure works. In the summer they turn away 3,000 wanna be guests. If youv'e been coming here for a few years you have to resv. you're spot for the next year or loose it.Well thats about it for today, hope everyone had a great day -bye for now Ron & Dee

Hi everybody,Another great sunny day here in Texas.Ron went golfing today with John and played 18 holes today. A terrible storm blew through San Ant. after we left there yesterday in a straight line all the way up to Okla. Okla. had tornadoes there etc. and there seemed to be a lot of quarter size hail east of us but all we got out of it was wild wild winds. It was shaking the trailer.I think everybody at home is getting some of it today.
Thats about it for today. Thanks for the e-mail Ann.The riverwalk does look a bit like europe does'nt it.Well bye for now take care Ron & Dee

Tues Feb10.

Hi everybody, Well today we headed off to San Anonio with our neighbour Gail to see the Alamo.
It was very impressive, and people seemed very serene as they toured the shrine. There was a tomb inside the church with 4 unknown soldiers in it.

Gail, Ron and myself in front of church. It was a great tour of restored American history.

Our next stop was the Riverwalk across the street. It too was very impressive .There were waterfalls everywhere and walls of water with a jungle of flowers for accent.

This the view of Alamo from the steps down to the beginning of Riverwalk.

another view of the waterfalls

This level was mostly eating establishments.Every kind of food you can think of -we had english style fish and chips in a British Pub.We were stuffed from the 3 pieces of battered cod and fries.
There was a boat trip around the walk but we didnt have enough time.

Gail and I browsing and gabbing on the sidewalk.Hibiscus and other flowers were in bloom all down the street.I can only imagine how pretty it is in the SUMMER.

The morning started out cloudy and spitting rain but while we had lunch the sun came out and it quickly got up to 80 and humid.I guess thats why all the chairs were outside along the river.

a walk way over to the other side

Mother and baby duckling just hangin' out on theside of river.

another view ofwalkway. we didnt get even close to walking the whole thing but it was great what we saw and had a delicous lunch.Headed off to costco on way home and did lots more walking there. It took us about 1 1/2 hrs to get there and about 2 hrs coming back the scenic route through Bandera. So all in all it was a great but tiring day.We all had fun!Thats it for today. The wind has come up again here tonight and temp has dropped to 64*very quickly. Bye for now -hope everyone had a terrific day Ron & Dee

Sun, Feb 8

Hi everybody, Well its still very windy here today. 40 mph and gusts over that at times. The pollen count is quite high from the mt. cedars and ash trees. We went for lunch today to the Feed Lot in Leaky.
The outside washrooms.

Front of restaurant - yes those are tractor seats to the wooden counter. There,s a sign that says " Good Food >>>90 miles" with an arrow pointing south.(I'm making one of those!!!)

These are our neighbours and friends Gail and Ken that i've mentioned. They're an adventurous senior citizen pair.Gail has her 2 kayaks with her and they boondocked in Quartzite on their way down here from Montana. She is Ron's lure retriever too.
The food was excellent here and all homemade.we were so full there was no room for dessert. This is their off season so its only open on the weekends. In the summer its a waiting line to get in.
Tonight I helped Doris get her quilt arranged and she started to do some sewing on it.She has it all set up on tables in the clubhouse. Not sure of the name of it but it is a scrappy and will look great when done sometime in the near future.Well thats it for today.Hope everyone had a good day. Thanks for the e-mail Ruth-its was great to hear from you. Bye for now Ron & Dee

Sat, Feb 7

Hi everybody, It was a great day today and its still 70 deg. right now at 7:30.I believe it got up to 78.We travelled over to Bandera today. Its a tourist town with a few mexican shops and lots of western shops.
There are also a lot of mexican reataurants. We did eat at one the day we went to the bull rodeo but not today.

Lots of benches for the guys to sit and watch traffic.

We parked the truck in the parking lot which is a flood area when it rains. They are prepared for high water -thats for sure

This viduct runs under the main street of town. You'll also notice the stilts on house.I found a fabric shop but no pre-printed material that Ruth and Karen are looking for.The store taught machine quilting lessons on big machine. Will try San Ant. next week.Bye for now ,take care all . Hope you had a great day too. (I hear its melting there ) Ron & Dee

Fri, Feb 6

Hi everybody, not much happening today.I went and exercised and later on Ron and I took a walk down to the river/road.As you can see there is still lots of water going over it.It comes from a natural spring somewhere up in the higher mts. We hope to go and find it one of these days.We still have to get to San Antonio River Walk toooo.
Well bye for now Take care - Ron and Dee

Thurs.Feb 5

Hi everybody,This morning we went into Leaky and did some browsing in the second-hand shops. One store had quite a few rooms to look through but we found nothing.Another one took in donations to help support the animal shelter but found nothing there either.BUT I did find my vanilla in the last store and it was the last bottle there.I,ve been asking around for it as it comes from Mexico and it so happened the owner goes to Laredo to stock up on items from Mexico. She had sold 2 cases of it already since Xmas. The rest of her inventory has been marked up so high it wasn't even funny .We then took a drive to a pecan farm and i bought 1# of pecans. It has cottages there to rent in the summer amongst the pecan trees and you feed the wild deer that come in to eat the nuts.It also is on the Frio river and if they don't get rain soon to make up the lost 2 ft. of water-- there won't be any tubing this summer. They rented out at $175--$250 a NIGHT depending on bed room size.A new house for 18 people at $450.00 a NIGHT is being built now.(4 bedrooms).Summer is BIG business around these parts. My puzzle is done so might have to start a new one. There is lots to pick from up there in the hall. Well thats about it for tonight .Hope everyone had a great day--take care Ron and Dee

Wed,Feb 4

Hi everybody, Today was exercise day for me and while i was there Ron noticed the truck battery was dead. So he worked on that project this morning getting it recharged enough to run into town and get a new one. Its lasted for over 4 yrs so it was time for a new one.Better here than on the road home somewhere.
The potluck supper was delicious as usual.Joy brought 2 homemade lemon meringe pies.Yummy! She is also the cake decorator instructor--go figure. There were quite a few less people there tonight as they seem to be on the move now that the weather has settled a bit.It is also very dry here and we are still on a red flag fire alert ! Possible rain this coming weekend. The newspaper headlines are "Pray for Rain".Well thats it for today ,hope everyone had a great day--take care Ron & Dee.

Sun Feb 1

Hi Everybody.Wow Its Feb. already, where has the month of Jan gone? This is a better pic of fishing hole by the bridge.Ron and I biked 6 miles today(took our time) over this bridge.
This is still the Frio river only closer to Garner State Park entrance. It is completly dried up in

some areas. There were some boys fishing here in the hole. They live right beside the river.!

The temp got to 74 deg. today with 22% humidity.Didn't even break into a sweat biking.

This is the cathouse condo across the street from us. Doris and John have 3 cats travelling with them. They go outside on nice sunny days.

There's a Super Bowl Party tonight at clubhouse. Lots of goodies to eat as well as the 5 cakes us girls decorated yesterday. They turned out really good for only having a 2 hr lesson. We learned quite a few ways to decorate cakes etc.
The couple from B C left yesterday for Bisbee Ariz. to golf some more. They were avid golfers so we didn,t see much of them--gone the whole day.A couple from Port Dover came in this week but are moving on this coming weekend. They were sure glad to get out of our Can. winter.
My puzzle is almost done now. I think some puzzlers(is that a word) are helping out every once in awhile.Well bye for now THINK SPRING!!!!! Ron and Dee ps. Thanks Karen (love your humor) D D & John , Brian and Mike & Lynn for e-mails . we love to hear from you guys.
