Hi everybody, Here,s a shot of me knitting out on the sunny patio that is beside our trailer. Its not ours but we use it anyway. Its the only sunny spot on our site.
Ron went for 10 mile bike ride today while i learned some cake decorating (what a laugh that was!).This is a hole above the dam in the Frio river up on another road.

same river but not rocky like in front of our site.

Deep hole over side of bridge with fish !

Thurs,Jan 29

Hi everybody. On a little trip today over to Campwood Ron took this pic of mountains and canyon. It really doesn't show the beauty of it or the height of which we climbed to get there. The cliffs are straight down !
Another canyon shot.

This is the Neueces River at the Uvalde County Campground on hwy55. It has lots of fish and the campground is quite small.

Another live oak tree that needs support because of its age. Shown are just the side branches.

We went scouting for the exotic animal farm north of Barkdale and this camel was the only animal we could find. It is a huge ranch with signage along both sides of road as a game preserve. The front whitewashed walls had broken glass embedded on the top so no one would dare try to climb the wall to get in.This camel was just along side of road with a "not that high fence".

He looks well fed anyway.
Well thats it for today. it finally got up to 60 after going down to 28 this morning. It was freezing some water hoses around here! Bye for now take care Ron and Dee

Hi everybody,Today was a trip to Bracketville to the Alamo Village. It was built for John Wayne's epic movie THE ALAMO in 1959.It is still to this day an active movie set and in 2007 "The Man Who Came Back " was filmed here. You might remember the movie "Texas", "The Gambler", "Lonesome Dove" just to name a few --they were also filmed here.
Front of replica Alamo. The real mc coy is in San Antonio.

The church where the last stand was filmed.

overall view of courtyard where a cast of thousands did their jobs.

another overall inside view of mission. The adobe mission and town took almost 2 yrs to complete.

Center courtyard where all the action was.Music video of Willie Nelson,s "Tougher then Leather" in 1980 was filmed at this location too.

This is the village on the ranch which also was used in filming movies.Alamo Village is a complete town with jail, saloon, general stores, stables bank, blacksmith shop and church.

Cardinals waiting for their turn at catfood dish (couldn't resist)

Buggies used in films

Background mountain scenery. It was really interesting and we have many more pics not shown .There were also documentaries made here about Texas and a few commercials, while at the same time being a working ranch with a herd of Texas Longhorn cows, horses, goats and sheep on the farm. Hope you enjoyed the tour. Bye for now take care Ron and Dee

Hi everybody, Well its really misty and overcast today but fairly warm. I went to exercise class and then Ron and i did a walk to dry riverbed.(2 mls)On the way we picked up some wood scraps for campfire at some later date.We also spotted a coyote running across the road.
When we came back to the park Gail suggested the the 6 of us have a potluck supper together as she had made some bean and pork hock soup. It was delicious and Mary brought a homemade pumpkin pie that was also delish.Ron baked some potatoes and a bulb of garlic to put on it. We all enjoyed our dinner a lot and did 3 games of bowling after. On our way back home it was 69 deg. outside and dampish. It was a fun evening , thats for sure. Sat Jan 24

Hi everybody,Well it was 41 deg. this morning. Now i know thats not anywhere near as cold as you guys -but everybody here sure was complaining--we've gotten spoiled since yesterday was 80 deg. It is sunny and very windy. No one dares put up their awnings. The potuck wild boar roast was excellent. There was more than 30 lbs. in the warming pot and it was all gone. It tasted just like pork only the color of roast beef and very tender. The potluck part was a feast of foods.Potato salads, scalloped potatoes ,Kentucky corn bread salad,(delish & i have recipe),coleslaws, baked beans with sausage and pies and cakes for dessert plus homemade peanut brittle. So if you didn't want to try the pork meat you sure could fill up on the rest of the spread!!There was free beer and canned pop compliments of the owner.
We checked out your pics of the kids Nick and they are great!Hi to Emily ,Trent and Logan .Hear you had lots of fun at the Ice Carnival.
Well thats all for today, take care Ron and Dee

Shoulder to shoulder 39 people formed a circle around this Bald-Cypress tree.

On our way home Ron spotted this LIVE armadillo and had to get some pics.

The temp.got up to 81 today and was great. Its so dry here you didn't feel that hot. By 5:00 the sun goes down behind the mountain and within 30 mins. it starts to cool off.Beautiful day in Texas! Bye for now Ron and Dee

Hi everybody,Well we've had a busy day today.I exercised to begin with and then we went by truck to see the centuries old Live Oak Tree(same as what is beside our trailer) Down at Rio Frio.We then came back for a bit of lunch then off on our bikes across the river/road.Yes, thats right -we rode over that darn river. We went up the hill and rode for a couple miles.

Tonight was our potluck dinner and it was delicious. So many good cooks in one spot-wow!

After dinner we went bowling ,golfing and a couple games of tennis. Ok -that was on a WII.what a lot of fun and lots of laughs.I'm sure we looked totally ridiculous up there --but who cares!Everyone was having fun.Well thats it for tonight (were pooped) take care thinking of y'all. Ron & Dee

Mon Jan 19

Hi everybody, not much happening today. It got up to 71deg. and was beautiful and sunny. we did our walk and got some sunburn.
I went over to clubhouse and started a Thomas Kincade puzzle (550 pcs) so that will be something to do on off days. There is a burn ban up for this whole area as it is very very dry here. They put up a red flag for the areas in danger. We did have a campfire with the neighbors on saturday night but that was in a burn barrel in their campsite.
Lots of motorhomes have been coming in for the night on their way to the Rio Grande Valley.Must be getting pretty packed down there.Well thats it for tonight .Take care --Ron and Dee

Sun, Jan 18

Hi everybody,Well today it was off to Bandera for the bull riding rodeo. The pics are just some of the many pics we took today .It was great weather for it -nice and sunny with a good breeze so no one baked to death.$5.00 admiss. There was one accident at the beginning and the young boy 15 had to be taken to hosp. for an injury. Got kicked in the head but later was reported to be doing just fine.Lots of spectators young and old.Our neighbour Gail (Montana) and Tom & Mary (Michigan) and Ron & I all stopped at Mexican restaurant for dinner on our way home - good and hot! By now it is pitch black on the way home thru the mts and always on the alert for deer. The closer we got to home the more deer we saw grazing on the side of road- a dozen or more. Tom was at the wheel and did great. Well thats all for now ,Glad to hear Eric made it home. Take care all Ron and Dee
